Le soleil de la nuit
“Le Soleil de la Nuit” explores the idea of inner illumination — glowing not on the surface, but from within — in the form of a mask inspired by ancient Greek theater. It upends the conventional association of light with visibility, suggesting instead that what truly shines may be hidden or obscured. The mask, which allows the actor to become someone else, evokes both transformation and identity, essence instead of appearance. The cicada’s hidden presence hints at passage, metamorphosis and secret beauty, while the mirror multiplies that glint into infinitude.
The interplay of epoxy, mirror, and light transforms the ceramic mask into a living artifact. The optical fibers animate the form with pulses of luminosity, softening contours and breathing life into the mask. The viewer is drawn into a hypnotic ritual: what lies behind the face—who we are beneath the veneer—emerges in light and reflection. The LED colors can change constantly and interact with sound, generating countless combinations of flowing light. The entire light system is controllable via smartphone, creating a responsive, multi-sensory experience.
